Westsail Rendezvous Hawaii 2006
Start of voyage.

The 2006 Hawaiian Westsail Rendezvous
Unlike most Westsail rendezvous, this one consisted of sailing, anchoring out overnight and sailing.
(minimum visiting) The event started at AlaWai harbor on the 24th of June and
proceeded to sail down the leeward coast of Oahu, to Hickman harbor.
You can just see Diamond Head in the background (look at the starboard stay).
Below is the entrance to Pearl Harbor. It was scenic, with its four foot breaking waves,
but it was a well marked channel and an easy anchorage.
(
The late afternoon arrival allowed everyone to brush up on their anchoring skills
and search for essential missing parts. My wife told me (you put the anchor handle
down there last time we anchored) (Opps the captain search for some time without
success and so the end I just let it out by hand ugh). Imagine had its blender
fired up shortly after anchoring was completed, but not all of the other boats
participated. The inter boat transportation system was quite limited.
(Hint: for all rendezvous held at Anchorage, make sure someone has a sports dingy
with a working outboard, other wise the ice melts between boats).
The best and main event was going ashore and having a fantastic dinner out at
the fabulous restaurant at Hickman harbor. I personally had the o-no, and it was incredible.
It was nice to find that most of the Westsail owners here in Hawaii have quite a
bit of local sailing knowledge as well as 2k+ mile sailing at a min.

The next day every one awoke late, and prepared for the sail home.
Scott of W32 PEGASUS (attending in his kayak only), was kind enough to ferry mugs
to Odyssey before her departure.
Below you can see Brother Sun looking good. I think all aboard were still asleep.
In the end we only had three W32's for this first Westsail rendezvous in Hawaii,
but hey, there is always next year. And if we do it again I hope for more attendance,
as it was very rough finishing off all of that extra frozen margaritas with just
the few participants (Brain freezes were a serious risk). I think (the third weekend in June)
is a good time to have rendezvous here, as the weather is pretty good.
Ok translation: for you mainlanders, it is as close to perfect as you are ever going to get.
Below is Odyssey departing for home. Really it is not the Caribbean
So on the way home we all had an excellent sail, 1/2 mile outside the anchorage there
was 8 to 10 knots of wind from abeam and not much of a swell (life just does not get
much better than this in Hawaii) "Somebody has to do it".
Imagine was even blessed by the sighting of a turtle (i.e. look a floating rock!)
(And that was the story).
